Collaboration Tools and Cloud Storage

As the campus splits between multiple locations, and remote team members become more commonplace, there is an increased need for tools to help dispersed groups work together. The university has recommended tools for file sharing, instant messaging and video conferencing, and H&S IT is committed to supporting the school's use of these collaboration technologies.

H&S IT can meet with your department, program or lab to talk about potential options for collaboration tools for video conferencing, instant messaging and document sharing.  Request an IT Consultation to get started.

We'll meet with your workgroup to discuss the recommended set of tools for your group's needs.

Recommended Tools

Stanford provides multiple tools for video conferencing, cloud file storage, and instant messaging, but there is a recommended set of tools for most users:

  • Zoom for video conferencing
  • Slack for instant messaging
  • Google Drive for cloud storage and collaborative documents
  • Jabber for making calls

If your work regularly involves protected health information (what is PHI?), UIT has different recommendations: Collaboration Tools for PHI and High Risk Data.

Additional Storage Options

For those with specialized storage needs, UIT has a storage recommendation page
